Many of you know that I quit my job as a family doctor 7 years ago because kids were busy and our lives were crazy and I couldn’t manage everything at work and at home.  It was a difficult transition to say the least.  One of the factors that made it easier for me to leave was that I didn’t subscribe to so many things in modern medicine.  When patients would come to me with a list of medications, I always tried to see what could be stopped, what lifestyle modifications could be implemented.  I’ve always had a bent toward more natural remedies even though that’s not how I was trained.  Now all these years later as I’ve kept searching for better ways to stay well,  I find myself a huge fan of the essential oils.  A friend of mine introduced me to Young Living when she visited my house last year.  All it took is using them a few times and I knew I had  stumbled onto something pretty wonderful.  I’m working on a post about how I use them in everyday life, but suffice it to say, they bring so much benefit and are such a wonderful way to promote health and wellness.

I use them all day, everyday.

I’m a huge fan of Young Living supplements and have just gotten through my first winter EVER completely healthy & strong.   I usually struggle with bronchitis and cold sores, but I’ve been able to radically boost my immune system by using essential oils so my body can heal itself. I never want to be without them again!  Since using the oils for myself, I’ve also dramatic results with hormone balance and mood stabilization.  That post is very personal and can be sent to you via email if you’re interested. (

And I’m not a crazy fanatic though.

As you know, I love cooking and I don’t skimp on good fats and rich foods.  I believe that lifestyle change is difficult and takes time and has to be something you can do over the long haul.  That’s why I still give myself permission to be human.   I exercise regularly, practice spiritual disciplines like prayer and devotions and believe that a balanced, wholistic approach to health is so much better for us over time.  The oils are such a wonderful adjunct to all that, with so many incredible benefits. My physician husband is now a huge fan of the oils as well, which proves it’s hard to remain a skeptic when something works as well as these products do.

They work so well because they’re God’s medicine, the natural byproduct of plant metabolism.  They are tiny molecules that are easily absorbed into the skin and know just what to do once they get there—deliver oxygen and nutrients and remove toxins without the  harmful side effects of so many medications.

And we don’t just have oils.  We have a host of wonderful supplements that are now part of my daily life.  My favorite is Ningxia Red, the sole reason I believe I was able to stop buying the gallon drum of Motrin I needed every month.  It’s a life changer, for sure. Some fun facts:

  • Minerals & vitamins found in NingXia Red act as enzymes and co-factors in the digestion process
  • Studies on seniors in China produced amazing results (many people lived beyond 100 years of age in wolfberry growing areas). Increases in Super Oxide Dismutase (SOD) and haemoglobin were found in serum in all participants.
  • Great tasting and sustains energy levels throughout the day
  • Helps lower blood sugar and in many tests stabilises blood sugar.
  • Strengthens the brains neuro-transmitters against pervasive free radical activity, thus fighting against dementia and other forms of memory loss.
  • Promotes a sense of well-being, and has had noticeable results in tests, which reduces stress and anxiety. The tissues of the body (including the brain) are assisted in avoiding oxidative stress.
  •  B-vitamin complex essential to the body.
  • Provides powerful anti-fungal and anti-bacterial action because it contains solvetivone.
  • Reduces pain caused by inflammation because the berry contains beta-Sitosterol.
  • The NingXia Wolfberry is high in protein (more than whole wheat).

Thieves is probably the oil I use the most in the fall and winter.  Here’s why:

All about Thieves!

Thieves® was created based on research about four thieves in France who covered themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims. This proprietary essential oil blend was university tested for its cleansing abilities. It is highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health. I can’t tell you enough good stuff about this oil blend.

You also might enjoy Young Living’s Thieves spray, wipes, mouthwash, foaming hand soap, hand purifier and toothpaste.

Just this weekend after missing lots of sleep and traveling, I knew I was about to get a cold sore in my nose. I started using Thieves right away and within 24 hours, my immune system was boosted and keeping me healthy.  That makes me SO HAPPY and excited, to have products that alleviate so many everyday nuisances.

One of my favorite oils is Peace and Calming.  I use it every night before bed (in a diffuser or by rubbing it between my palms and smelling it) and it helps SO much with relaxation and sleep.  I use lavender and frankincense in so many different ways and add a drop of lemon to my water everyday.  I’ve been using Pan-Away on my recovering stress fracture to promote healing and peppermint on my neck and back for stress relief.  There’s so much to continue learning with the oils, but I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot.

As I said, I’ve been using YL essential oils for a year now and I’m in love.  They’ve become a regular part of my life and I’m so excited to share them with you.  I wanted to use them for a good while before I advocated for them here on my online home, but now I just feel like I’m hiding my best kept secret.  (Read more about each oil here!)

So why Young Living and not other brands?

I also used several other essential oil brands before and never had the results I have with Young Living.   I believe in Young Living, their incredible therapeutic-grade essential oils and their purpose to bring wellness and abundance to the world.  I believe in their integrity and desire to provide the best possible 100% therapeutic grade essential oils for their members. I am so thankful to have chosen this essential oil company for our family.

So, here is the real bottom-line:

You can buy the oils retail from my site by clicking here. To buy the oils in the most economical way (this is the way I’ve been using the products for the past year) you can become a “wholesale member.” In return you get the oils at a wholesale discount plus access to other offers. When you sign up, I get a commission {I think it is super important to be clear on that!}. If – and ONLY if – you choose to sign someone else up, you can get a commission. For a whole year, I didn’t try to sign anyone up.  (I don’t recommend waiting that long if you love the oils, but I was kinda busy writing a book!) You never have to sign anyone up or share the oils.  You can simply enjoy the wholesale pricing with zero strings attached. For real. I recommend starting with the Premium kit because you get lots of oils in actual jars, and a diffuser. {see more below}

But here is where Young Living differs from others: There is NO regular purchase commitment! In other words, you don’t have to maintain a certain order amount, and you are not locked into any specific purchase commitment. For me, this was the kicker. Because, when you don’t NEED something, why in the world should you HAVE to buy it? {Of course, you will probably find, like me, that you have a zillion reasons why you need your oils.}

Young Living does offer a monthly order program called Essential Rewards, but this is totally optional. Yay!! I did not do it at first, but now I have actually signed up for ER {Essential Rewards} because I use the oils so regularly and I like that I get a percentage back in product credit as I build my collection of oils.

If you’re interested in joining up to purchase wholesale, click here.

Want to know more? I hope this Q and A below will help you as you consider whether or not Young Living is right for you:

Why Should I Become A Wholesale Member?

This is the way to get your oils at 24% off retail price! Always awesome to get this discount. As you use the oils and you share your testimonials with friends and family, you have the OPTION {100% OPTIONAL!} of earning commissions when others join and purchase Young Living oils. There is NEVER any obligation to buy a certain amount or ever share YL with others. Never!! Win-win!

Is there a monthly order minimum?

No. You can just order what you need when you need it! LOVE THIS!

I just really want to use oils myself. Do I ever have to sell Young Living products?

This is fine! There is NO obligation at all to sell oils when you join as a wholesale member. However, if you ever change your mind, you can jump right in and the sky is the limit. I personally choose to just share it online or with friends who ask me about it first. It is a no-pressure kind of thing, and I will not lie… the monthly check is love.lyyyyy!

Are you sure there are no monthly order requirements?

There is NO, zilch, zero, REQUIREMENT. {<- finally! a company that gets it!!}!  To retain an active ‘wholesale member’ account, you have to place one 50PV {approx. $50} minimum order per year. If you miss that deadline, you can reactivate your account by calling Young Living Customer Care with a 100PV (point volume) order. Sometimes, as a promotion, they even waive this minimum order requirement to reactivate. But again, this is just to keep, what YL calls, “active status.”

If someone wants to join Young Living through me, what do I give them?

When you join, you will be assigned your own ‘wholesale member number’ to give to your friends and family who are interested in joining as well.

Is there a way to save even more money?

Yes! The Essential Rewards program offers reduced shipping, generous credit for free oils & more!  Plus each month there are great promotions for free oils when you place an Essential Rewards order. I did not do this when I started, but now I do because it works for me! Plus, I love free stuff, and I am getting plenty of it.

What is the catch?

There is none. Period. To be clear, again, I do make a commission from the company when you make your purchase. That motivates me to share, of course, but the main reason I share Young Living oils is because I love them, they work and they have blessed our family. Thank you for enrolling as a ‘wholesale member’ via my links!

Young Living will never share this info with anyone.}

  1. Crazy question but I am not familiar with these oils. Are they something you take internally or rub on your body? How did you know which one to use for your cold sore?

  2. How can we join your Facebook group for oils? I am already a YL wholesale member, but I love joining groups to get others testimonies and uses for the oils.

  3. Edie, I have recently been diagnosed with a frozen shoulder. I have been reading about PanAway. How exactly would I use it. Apply directly or in a diffuser? Would that even be the correct oil to use? Would Valor be better? Thanks, Francy

    • I think those would both be great and maybe add Lavender and Frankincense. You might consider making a little concoction with a few drops of each oil and a few drops of olive oil and then rubbing that mixture directly on.
      Hope you’re better soon.

    • Yes! Melrose, Lavender and Rose mixed up in an ointment (you can use coconut oil or another carrier oil) works great! There are probably other good combinations and I would highly recommend getting or an essential oils desk reference for more ideas!

  4. Hi Edie, I am using oils for exzema (lavender, tea tree, Rosemary in coconut oil). It is amazing how quickly the cracked, painful skin heals. And if I get to the blisters quickly enough, they reverse and never get to the cracking stage. I also use them to combat sore (perhaps scalp acne) on my head. Anyway, both of these issues have cropped up as a result of immunosuppression because of Lupus meds.

    Being purposely immunosuppressed has made me wary of using something like thieves to help ward off all the germs floating around in my classroom, but I would rather do something natural instead of hand sanitizer. I’m just concerned about anything to boost my immune system. I’m almost off prednisone after more than three years. Do you have any advice you feel comfortable sharing?

  5. I have a teen son who has ADHD. I’ve heard he could use the oils in place of pills. What would you recommend I buy?

  6. Hi Edie~

    Thank you for all the info on YL Oils. Has the Premium Kit changed recently? The one that is pictured does not show the individual EO bottles.

  7. Edie,

    I love your blog and enjoy reading your posts. I also am a proponent of natural sources for ailments instead of going straight to prescription medications. But, I would like to offer caution when using some of the products sold by Young Living Essential Oils. There has been new age or mystical components to some of their claims. From there current website, they seem to have toned that side of things down, but still use there products with discretion.

  8. Hi Edie, I did sign up under your name for YL premium kit. I am on the fence on if this is working for me or not. The first day I got the kit I put 1 drop of lemon oil in a 8 oz. glass of water. My lips burned (i rubbed coconut oil on them and it went away) then my tongue and throat started burning and I became pretty nauseous. Im sure this works differently for everyone, but after that incident I did some research and it seems ingesting oils can be pretty dangerous. I am getting so much mixed information on these oils and don’t know who to believe. Im actually a little scared. Where did you get your research from Edie?

    Thanks for your help, Paola

  9. Ok, I want to start…grandkids with ADHD, or depression, sleeplessness, stress…adults, also. I have Bell’s Palsy with a sore ear, external and a sore neck. Where do I find your info to sign up. I don’t like any of the kits, but I do like what you say about the individual oils. Can you form your own kits. I don’t like toothpastes, drinks, etc. I have used maleluca through their company but never used the oil as you suggest. I need help. Can you write a detailed article on how to start and sign up. I listened to the webinar but didn’t get that detailed info. Thanks.

  10. Hi Edie;
    I am a YL lover and part of the YL crew too 🙂 I appreciate your initial skepticism as I had that at the beginning also, working as a RN for years. Now through my families’ use of the YL EOs, I have seen the huge benefits and am a believer. Thanks for your blog – and Happy New Year to you and your family………

  11. I had a Y>L> account a few years ago, but haven’t ordered for over a year. I want to start a blog and sell Y.L. oil online. Does Y.L. offer help in how to sell online? DoTerra does, even scripts to follow.
