When Blogher asked me participate in Tide’s ‘Style that Pops’ campaign, I couldn’t sign up fast enough. I clothe myself like I decorate my house; in layers, with color, with things that inspire! AND, I’ve used Tide for 20 years and although I’ve changed brands for short periods of time, I always come back to Tide. I was so curious to try the†Tide Pods on my favorite colorful clothes. I hate having beautiful pieces that come out of the laundry dingy. I’m crushing on pinks and purples right now so I’m in the market for an outfit that looks like this chair and pillow!

It’s so much more fun to wash pretty, colorful clothes, don’t you agree? YES, yes it is! And it’s also true that what you wear has some sort of psychological effect on your mood. Although I still love the tried and true neutrals, adding color to your wardrobe has a big payoff. And even though I stay home every day, homeschooling my girls, doing laundry, making food and cleaning, I still get dressed in things that inspire me. I don’t ‘save’ the good stuff for special occasions. Otherwise, I’d never wear it. I slip on an apron and let Tide worry about the mess! I can tell you for sure that it was more fun to make Stevie’s birthday pie in a pretty, colorful shirt. After a whole day of working hard at home, it was a mess. I washed it this morning using one of the Tide Pods and it’s sparkling again. I love the smell of the ‘Spring Meadow’ variety. I’ve got a strong smeller so I judge a laundry detergent by its smell factor and I worried that these small little pacs wouldn’t pack a punch in scent—– but they do.

I consider myself a connoisseur of laundry. I’ve done a lot of laundry in my life. I do a lot of laundry now. And I have to tell you that I LOVE these Tide Pods. You just throw a pac in the wash, without the mess of the liquid and without any extra steps. I think you’ll like them too. And don’t forget to wear the good stuff. Even at home. You’ll feel better, look better, and when it’s time to do laundry, your clothes will be (almost) fun to wash. Pop in. Stand out.

My colorful brights look great hanging on the rack to dry. And even look cuter by this cutie! † Now, doing the boys’ laundry, that’s another (boring) story!

  1. I too like bright colors and patterns. My favorite for winter is patterned tanks, bright cardigans, & a scarf to match.

  2. I have to have color in my life too! I could live in your house – it is perfection. My favorites in my wardrobe are my scarves – lots of color and so versatile.

  3. Right now my favorite outfit is my turquoise and navy blue striped maxi dress and accessorizing it with my mustard flower necklace (made it myself but like allora handmade) and red flats. =D I used to never wear bright accessories and mostly wore black. I don’t know what’s happening to me in my old age, lol! Sure is fun to be colorful!

  4. I love my bright blue Patagonia fleece ! Love your house too. I’ve painted my daughter’s bedroom Sea Salt and her dresser is as close as I could get to the beautiful one in your girl’s room. You inspired me to decorate 🙂

  5. Hi, my favorite outfit to stand out in is a bright animal print top in shades of white, black and brown and black pants. Thanks for the opportunity!

  6. I love Tide. I haven’t tried the pods yet. Right now, I’m crushing on corals and any shade of orange, also chartreuse-maybe I just love saying the name.
My favorite outfit is my maxi skirt, coral top, and boots!!

  7. In the summer, a colorful tank & cute skirt with espadrilles. In the fall/winter, a solid color top with a fun scarf & skinny jeans with boots! 🙂

  8. I have been an orange girl this year…never thought I would be but they make me happy. I have several orange tops I wear with jeans and they brighten the day!

  9. Oh, Edie, I have a hot pink cashmere sweater that you would mug me for! And I wear it with a floral blouse and gray pants. I also have a green/blue-gray tweed jacket that makes me feel great, but it’s really warm. I can only wear it as outerwear or in the dead of winter with a green blouse.

  10. Your home is goregous and so fun! I love anything leapord print! It can be added to almost any outfit for a punch of pazaz!!

  11. White skirt with big navy polka dots. Bright tangerine sweater. High heels. Dangly, sparkly earrings. 4 layers of pearls. Love. 🙂

  12. This fall I’m loving my navy blue tank dress with a polka-dotted skirt portion, matching leggings, and a deep orange cardigan–slip on a pair of brown riding boots and I’m good to go!

  13. I always love my dark skinny jeans, black books, and super girly tops. My favorite though is when I throw my ultra flowery apron that my mother in law made me and then cover it in another type of flour.

  14. I tend to wear neutrals with colorful scarfs and beautiful earrings. Throw in a pair of great boot or sandals and there ya go! Love your style as always!

  15. I have a great royal blue blouse with white polka dots that I pair with an orange cardigan! My oldest daughter’s wedding colors were blue and orange ( she is a landscape architect and knows color well).
But really, my favorite stand out piece is a full length mink coat that my husband took as a fee from a client. He held onto it for many years, and in a very low part of my life, gifted me with it. I rarely wear it as it is very presumptive, but when the temps dip down in N Texas, I pull it out! His sweet thoughts and caring make it worth all the stares!

  16. I’m down here in Florida so I’m in capris all the time. Top it off with a soft pretty blouse and some sandals and I’m ready to go!

  17. I feel like I stand out when I wear my 3 inch tall boots (I’m 5’9″ in my bare feet), black leggings, and top with a sweatheart neckline.

  18. My current favorite outfit is a yellow/white striped ruffled henley over a gray tank, gray Old Navy button down cardigan, a red beaded necklace, blue jeans and cognac colored Steve Madden boots.

  19. I love my coral Banana Republic swing jacket with my dark wash jeans and my Born heels.
I always receive positive comments from others when I wear it.

  20. I’m really working on brightening up my normally neutral wardrobe with pops of color. My biggest reach is the stunning purple dress I will be wearing to my son’s wedding later this month. No sitting down, shutting up, or wearing beige for this mother of the groom!

  21. I love the cooler weather. At the moment my favorite outfit is my brown and cream zebra print dress with my denim jacket and brown riding boots. And lots of bangles and a long necklace.

  22. Edie, I love your red shirt with the apron:) Any chance you are willing to share where you bought it? I love red and a great pair of jeans.

  23. I have to try those little colorful pods! Love the idea that we should enjoy a little color every day- and not save things for a “special occasion”~every day is special enough!

  24. My favorite outfit this fall is a wool plaid skirt/turtleneck and ruffled tan jacket to top it off 🙂 thanks for the great giveaway!!

  25. Hi Edie,
I’m hosting Thanksgiving for a group of 24 this year (panic). Just wondering if you could share some of your family Thanksgiving recipes for us to share. Would love to see some of your favorites.

  26. Skinny jeans and a loose blouse…and my Fryes that my husband surprised me with for my birthday last year. (Big surprise…thank you tax return!) 🙂

  27. Hi Edie,

While my favorite color is purple, my truly favorite outfit right now is a white peasant blouse with a red, white, & blue skirt and sandals (flats for fun, heels to dress it up a little bit). Won’t be wearing them again for another 6 months- definitely summer attire- so I need to work on a winter favorite.

  28. I like to stand out by wearing pink or purple t-shirts or sweaters because they are brighter than my usual wardrobe, and I usually just pair them with dark jeans.

  29. I don’t really have a favorite, but I do know that one day I looked at my clothes and realized they were all tan, brown, black or gray. So I went on a mission to add colorful blouses and tops and now I have turquoise and green and red and purples and pinks and I love it!

  30. We love the pods too. Great for the guys in our house to help with their own laundry. I love not having to worry that they are putting in too much of something. My “uniform” of choice is jeans, boots and a colorful top. I am crushing on oranges and pinks right now.

  31. I too love Tide, have not tried the pods
YET , but looking forward to it
You even make laundry look like fun.
Look forward to your post. You inspire

  32. My perennial favorite is always grey or khaki with pops of turquoise. But right now, I’m loving a raspberry striped long-sleeve T, navy blue slouchy short-sleeved sweater, and dark jeans. (Thank you, TJ Maxx!) Comfy, warm, and layered!

  33. I just had a baby so I’m in a slump of fashion right now. However, just before she was born, I adored my blue floral maxi dress. It was effortless and darling on my baby bumped body.

  34. There are a few outfits that I put on and I just feel so “me” in. And they almost always involve my ancient jean jacket. I throw it over all sorts of outfits, fancy, casual, work, and it just seems to set it all right.

  35. I love the classics with a twist…something unexpected. Like a white oxford and jeans with a leopard belt or a hot pink cardi over something more traditional. Not quite fitting in the box may be my specialty. ; )

  36. I like blacks and greys with pops of brights, I always wash my clothes separate from my son’s 🙂 he’s 11 and they has a hobby of making an outside fort at school out of sticks and dirt hoping to weatherproof it for winter. So cute, but some messy surprises come home:-)

  37. My favorite current outfit is a black & white striped dress with a bright mustard cardigan, leggings, and boots. It’s comfy like pj’s, but more socially acceptable.

Actually, I am wearing today over my blog…

I love the idea of not saving the good clothes, but wearing them everyday.

  38. I really like wearing purple and also turquoise. My favorite outfits are ones that look good but also are comfortable! 🙂

  39. My favorite stand-out outfit is a bright cardigan with a totally contrasting top underneath, paired with jeans and my leopard flats. Mixing colors and patterns is so fun.

  40. I have a skirt that I made out of my Mom’s dress (that she made). I inherited alot of her belongings when she passed away & repurposed some items to fit my style. The fabric pattern is bold and I can wear it in the summer with sandals or boots in the winter. It’s full, too, so I always feel like dancing when I wear it.

  41. My over-sized shimmery-gold sweater with leggings and brown riding boots! I always feel pretty wearing it because the gold complements my brown eyes/hair. Plus, it’s COMFY. 🙂

  42. This fall, I’m opting for neutral and basic tops paired with skinny jeans or leggings with major bright statement necklaces. I’m having so much fun compiling fun jewelry this year!

  43. I enjoy dressing up for church since I don’t dress up as much during the week (also a SAHM). I have some cute dresses that I’ve gotten for good deals that I really like (part of the enjoyment is knowing I got the dress for cheap at Marshalls or TJMaxx), its like the secret gives me confidence along with the dress 😉

  44. I love wearing my bird appliqué dress. The are hand sewn onto the dress. I cut them from my sons old baby tshirts. The dress fits perfectly and I am proud to wear something I made.

  45. Honestly, I hate my clothes. I have 1 pair of pants w/ holes in them & 3 shirts. I haven’t bought clothes for myself since I had a job last in 2009. I do love your color choices & hope to get my kitchen as a similar color scheme as yours.

  46. My favorite outfit to stand out in is my form fitting grey dress with r a mom I don’t always get to wear the clothes I want for fear of sp marks, food stains etc…not to mention getting up and down off th day and cleaning. So it is nice to have something you feel confident good in for the weekend with the hubby!

  47. I am actually very convicted by your post today. I was reading it and looked down at my outfit to realize I was wearing all faded gray (my “work” clothes). I realized that I see myself as “employed” by my home and not “called” to live and love here. What a novel idea: wear gorgeous clothes to “work” through on a beautiful apron and trust my detergent to do its job. Thanks!

  48. Have loved your blog for years now…thanks for the chance to win! I love a nice pair of black pants and a colorful shirt–with a scarf or open jacket. Boots are always nice, even here in coastal Carolina.

  49. I can never go wrong with nice jeans and a crisp white shirt. However, I always make it pop with a colorful scarf, shawl, belt, etc. My favorite scarf right now is bright orange.

  50. I look and feel best with bright colors around my face. It also helps make winter seem less drab.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  51. I love big “gaudy” (my husband calls it) jewelry. You can throw on just about anything, add a colorful necklace and a stack of bangle bracelets up your arm and make it really special! I’m a stay at home mom who homeschools and I really try to avoid the pj’s and sweatpants look. No one feels good dressed like THAT!

  52. probably doesn’t technically count as a favorite since I only ever wear it in the house as I am not yet brave enough to wear it out, but some bold leggings from H&M with a sweater dress. love, love, love the look. just need to get brave and wear it past my front door 🙂

  53. I dont dress up that much. My go to outfit and one that I feel like I standout in is a nice long sleeve or 3/4 sleeve blouse/or long sleeve tshirt and a nice pair of jeans with boots.

  54. My favorite outfit to stand out in is my Boden dress which has lots of bold color – I get so many compliments every time I where it.

  55. My favorite outfit to stand out in is my black dress with embroidery applique which I used to wear to my church on Sundays.

  56. I love to stand out in a ruffly poet’s shirt and a patterned gypsy skirt. Something with purple and black, touches of gold and green.

  57. This has nothing to do with what I wear, but what is the source of your drying rack? I need just the thing in my laundry room!

  58. I wear a hello kitty hoodie with skulls and pair with black pants. Thanks for the review and giveaway. I like tide pods too, they clean very well.

  59. I basically have one outfit: black v-neck t-shirt and olive cargo pants. I don’t really like to stand out but love this outfit and that is why I wear it all the time!

  60. For me it’s a classic button down white shirt, it goes with skirts, suits and instantly classes up my favorite jeans, it can be worn alone or layered under a cardi or jacket, that’s definitely 3-in-1 action right there! Second place would be Black Skinny Jeans as I can wear those with longer jackets for casual Friday at the office and then still rock them on the weekends too!

  61. I’m afraid I just rely on the boring t-shirt: Wear it alone, under a sweater, or over a long-sleeved shirt. s2inamug at aim dot com

  62. I’m really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it is rare to see a nice blog like this one these days.
