The New Year’s List::2010

There’s something special about the start of a decade. I was born in 1970. I had my tenth birthday and my first boyfriend in 1980. I had my first child in 1990. I turned 30, graduated from residency, married my soul mate and had my third child in 2000. On Monday, I welcome the new decade by turning 40. So I thought I’d make a fun little list—a 40 in 40—but since 40 is the new 30—it only has 30 things on it. (okay, I thought that was clever but in reality, I can’t make that document bigger because photoshop does not cooperate with me). Here’s to the new year. The new decade. New beginnings and another chance to make those dreams come true. Happy 2010!

What’s on your list?

Post edit: I saw something like this on Meg’s blog and thought it looked like fun.

Under this post, listed in the "you might like" section, was this post:

I was soooo in love with those boots.

I LOVE your list! And 30 is the new 40!!!

PS: You NEED to start the quilt. It is the single most relaxing thing you will ever do.

I'm re-cycling some of the "goals" I had on last year's list and never accomplished (for oh so many and varied reasons) —1. Tube another Texas river 2. learn to play my guitar 3. read through the Bible this year 4. Read 24 really good, meaty books 5. learn to back a trailer – successfully! without taking out any fences or barns — and a few more.

I love setting goals – gives me something to keep in front of me and shoot for.

May your New Year be blessed. You and your blog are a blessing to me. I look forward to every post.

Edie,
I LOVE the list…. I turn 40 this July and have TONS of things I want to do….Concerning the adoption I would LOVE to answer any questions you may have. My family and I adopted 2 precious angel babies from Guatemala. They are such blessings to us all….My adoption story is condensed on my blog here:

Oooohhh. I love how you presented your list. Looks great. What a fabulous year you have ahead of you. Photoshop.. would love to do that too. A marathon or a 1/2 marathon is on my list that I posted today too. Happy new Year!

ginaJanuary 1, 2010 - 7:01 pm

I HOPE you prove that 40 is the new 30, because I'm a bit freaked about turning 37 this year and becoming officially in my "late 30's". :) This is a fun list , with some lofty goals… run a marathon! Good Luck and I'll be here reading along.

meg duerksenJanuary 1, 2010 - 7:04 pm

i love it edie! i thought your "sleep till 7" was so funny. how early do you wake up?! and you reminded me that i said Make a quilt. i am running out of time. :)

minnesotamomJanuary 1, 2010 - 7:09 pm

I'm turning 30 in two weeks…does that make me 20? Rock on!

StaceyJanuary 1, 2010 - 7:45 pm

I have been reading your blog for a while now. I love it! When I visit, I want to grab a cup of coffee and sit back and enjoy.

Happy Birthday! My wonderful hubby is turning 40 on Wednesday. He has repeatedly told me "NO Surprise party!" Do you have any big plans?

TalysaJanuary 1, 2010 - 7:52 pm

First of all…"Lord please let me look as Edie when I'm 40!"

I love this list…and if you hike Mt. Leconte you will become my new hero. For real.

Let me know about that afternoon in Anthropolgie…I may have to join you.

And mine would have to read "Get UP at 7"

We too have been praying about adoption…I will pray for you and your family as well!

MelanieJanuary 1, 2010 - 7:57 pm

I love that you made your list because you couldn't make it work in photoshop. LOL! That would be something that I would do. I have seen this on Meg's blog too. I am turning 42 next month and I might just have to do this. I know that it should be on the even year but I don't want to think about 50! YIKES!

MicahJanuary 1, 2010 - 8:32 pm

I posted my list on my blog also…it is so simple and so hard all at once. I want to seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness…I really want this year to be a demarkation in my life of consecration.
Praying for you in 2010 Edie. Many Blessings for you and your family. Happy New Year!

MicheleJanuary 1, 2010 - 8:50 pm

I LOVE your list!! You have such GREAT things on here!!! I love how clever you are with your 30 things. . .ha!ha!

Probably the #1 thing on my list is to be nicer to myself and give myself a little more grace. . . to not expect so MUCH from me!! It's amazing I am my own worst enemy!! Happy New Year!!

SarahJanuary 1, 2010 - 9:20 pm

Hey Edie…Happy New Year to you and your gorgeous family! Wow…looking great at 40 ~ Happy Birthday! xxx

SarahJanuary 1, 2010 - 9:37 pm

Hi Edie,
I've loved every post since I started following your blog… has it almost been a year?! Happy birthday and God's blessings on you as you accomplish every-single-item on your list. :) The one I'm most excited to hear more about is your prayers on adoption. We are in the process of adopting, after finally listening to God's calling. You can follow our journey at http://hernamewillbeemilymargaret.blogspot.com/
God's blessings on your New Year! Sarah :D

Julie MagallanesJanuary 1, 2010 - 9:45 pm

You are such an inspiration to me Edie, I love your blog and I aspire to be like Edie when I grow up (I am 37 ;-) I love the way you have a great knack for layering clothes and looking awesome in them, I love that you are a southern girl (I am originally from GA), I love that you are so crafty and share it with us and mostly I love that you adore our wonderful savior and are such an incredible mother to your children. You ROCK, keep doing what you do! Thanks for sharing!
PS. a friend of mine has cancer and started a blog a few yrs back, she is such an incredibly spiritual person and reminds me a lot of you in that sense. You might enjoy reading her blog sometime. http://sandyboulware.blogspot.com/ …check it out

Nancy Jacobs BasketmasterJanuary 1, 2010 - 11:13 pm

Very Cool! My list contains Menu plan faithfully. I want that to become a habit. The second thing on my list is to listen to the daily audio Bible to hear the Bible in one year. My list is short.
Blessings,
Nancy

MichelleJanuary 1, 2010 - 11:19 pm

I L-O-V-E IT!!!!! Happy Birthday!!!

TheOldPostRoadJanuary 1, 2010 - 11:43 pm

Wowwee! That's inspirational. (I will be 41 on 01/10/10. Time flies.)

Will be writing my goals this weekend. Looking forward to your book suggestions – I am currently reading "The Magnificent Obsession" by Anne Graham Lotz and am about half-way thru – I am really enjoying this book. She mentions her own good habits and that is always inspirational (like your blog and your goals) – simply to hear what others do and use their ideas as inspiration.
Thanks!
-Trish

These Are The DaysJanuary 2, 2010 - 1:07 am

Love your collage Edie. I didn't know you were considering adoption but it's funny I'm reading these comments now because. For the last several minutes (before I saw this post), I've been sitting here w/ Sophie and having some overwhelming feelings of gratitude. I can't even tell you what a blessing and miracle our adopting her has been. No words can describe it. 3 years later, I get emotional just thinking about it. I can't believe she'll be 3 next month. Good luck in your decision. :) Hope Philly was fun and w/out incident. :) LOL

NoconaJanuary 2, 2010 - 2:20 am

I love your blog! I love to meet othere women with goals and are always striving to be better. I sat down last night and made affirmation statements of the woman and I want to become in 2010 in the different areas of my life. Spiritual, Home/Family, My buisness and Personal. Then I broke them down into goals on how to get there. There are so many bloggers out there that their blog is a place to complain, gripe and vent about their lives. I am so glad to find blogs that are uplifting and real.

YES, THIS IS A CUTE WAY TO DO A LIST OF GOALS…IT JUST MIGHT MAKE US ALL ACCOMPLISH OUR GOALS TOO! COME SAY HI

Wow. Love this. Thanks for posting. I am in Gatlinburg right now and I hiked Mt.Leconte last time I was here. Coldest I have ever been :) Also want to take a sewing class, live with reckless abandon (YES! Jesus calls us to this!), and spend an afternoon in Anthro. Working on a trip to Atlanta now. Also need to learn photoshop. Kind of intimidating.

Love your blog. Loved the 12 days of Christmas. Helped me a lot with my Christmas crafts. I LOVE your homeschool room, your beautiful cabinets, need I go on?? Thanks for sharing this!

PS….how did you make this…with the boxes? This is probably an ignorant question…but I have to ask.

Catherine AnneJanuary 2, 2010 - 6:12 am

Love love love your blog. I think I have read through at least a dozen and half of the entries. I really connected with your heart. I am a retired teacher in Texas and a southern girl at heart. A christian and a blogger, guess that is enough reasons to feel connected. I am still trying to figure out the technology of blogging. Oh my, maybe after a 200 posts I will have it. Loved reading your 100 list, was it a bit short????

kimberJanuary 3, 2010 - 1:28 am

Patty recommended your blog and I am hooked; I am trying to get mine going again. I think we have met, I work in healthcare here in m'town. I love your kitchen, I think I have a new project now LOL

PruJanuary 4, 2010 - 11:26 am

As I write my comment you have 40 comments already. Its Monday the 4th so I wish you every happiness for your birthday. I came to your blog from Darby's blog during 12 days of Christmas and I am hooked.

40 is the new 30 and I wish you every joy throughout this year.

RuthJanuary 4, 2010 - 8:36 pm

I did a list something like this a little while back. It was 39 things to do before turning 39. Your list is great. I have some similar things on my list.

I had hoped to get some things accomplished during the Christmas holiday but things were turned upside down when our family suffered a big loss. I keep reminding myself of what the Bible says, "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails."

Oh Edie, how I love you :) ! This is such a fun list…I just want to spend 10 minutes in Anthropologie without three kids with me while I am telling them, dont touch that, put that down, I dont want to have to pay for that, etc, etc. Check out my last post when you get a chance, its on scripture memorization, you will get a kick out of my 6 year old!
Happy B-day!

Be A SaintJanuary 8, 2010 - 4:55 am

Wow, I am going to be 40 in 2010. I had a baby in 1990. I want to be healthy in 2010. I want to run a marathon. I have so many hopes and dreams, and can't seem to get off the ground. What is stopping me? I don't want to live the life I am living. I don't want to be tired and slow because of the stupid food I eat. I want to be healthy. I hope I can get the inspiration I need to get up and live life more fully! Thanks for the eye opener.

Mary Jean TaylorJanuary 28, 2010 - 3:31 am

This is so awesome! It is my 40th year as well and I feel FABULOUS! I might just copy this idea from you!!! LOVE IT!

MonicaApril 6, 2010 - 9:55 pm

I just found your blog and LOVE it already! We share a few commonalities! I was born in 1970, had my first blessing in 1990, had my 2nd blessing in 2000 and of course, am turning 40 this year! Thank you for encouraging me!

[...] year, in lieu of my traditional list of New Year’s resolutions, I decided to do a ‘40 in 40′; forty things I wanted to do in my fortieth year of life. But because I couldn’t quite figure [...]
