The following excerpt is taken from an article written by Robert George, law professor at Princeton on the extreme pro-abortion views held by Barack Obama.
Barack Obama is the most extreme pro-abortion candidate ever to seek the office of President of the United States. He is the most extreme pro-abortion member of the United States Senate. Indeed, he is the most extreme pro-abortion legislator ever to serve in either house of the United States Congress.
Yet there are Catholics and Evangelicals-even self-identified pro-life Catholics and Evangelicals – who aggressively promote Obama’s candidacy and even declare him the preferred candidate from the pro-life point of view.
What is going on here?
What kind of America do we want our beloved nation to be? Barack Obama’s America is one in which being human just isn’t enough to warrant care and protection. It is an America where the unborn may legitimately be killed without legal restriction, even by the grisly practice of partial-birth abortion. It is an America where a baby who survives abortion is not even entitled to comfort care as she dies on a stainless steel table or in a soiled linen bin. It is a nation in which some members of the human family are regarded as inferior and others superior in fundamental dignity and rights. In Obama’s America, public policy would make a mockery of the great constitutional principle of the equal protection of the law. In perhaps the most telling comment made by any candidate in either party in this election year, Senator Obama, when asked by Rick Warren when a baby gets human rights, replied: “that question is above my pay grade.” It was a profoundly disingenuous answer: For even at a state senator’s pay grade, Obama presumed to answer that question with blind certainty. His unspoken answer then, as now, is chilling: human beings have no rights until infancy – and if they are unwanted survivors of attempted abortions, not even then.
Random photos from my week…..
First of all, thank you so much to Sandy who gave me this lovely blog award. I feel so much bloggy love and I know you’d love her blog site. She is very inspiring in all things home and such an encourager with her sweet comments.
Next, on the list, I decided on maple-glazed brussel sprouts for my new Thanksgiving item. Don’t make faces. They are fantastic and all my kids like/love them. I cannot tell a lie. Just cook a bag a thawed and sliced brussel sprouts in equal parts bacon grease and olive oil. Yes I said bacon grease. I’m a southerner and we all have a jar of bacon grease sitting somewhere in our cupboards. I said don’t make faces. Then add salt and pepper and when they’re nice and carmelized add a drizzle of maple syrup. Delightful!
and why oh tell me why do my like-new Victoria Secret bras not sell on Ebay? Is it because this is a poor picture? Do I need a model? Actually, my friend Donia gave me a slew of these and they just don’t fit me perfectly. Like not at all. It’s okay to sell them on Ebay, right? They’ve only been tried on and laundered. Which I fully disclosed. I’m listing them again. Somebody need these babies. I have like 15 of them.
And then there’s this child who is shaping up to be quite a hypochondriac. Figures. Living with two doctors who are not easily impressed with wounds, she’s learned that this is a good way to torture us. But, hey, I’ve got lots of left over medical supplies from when I quit work so what’s a little guaze and some 4by4’s if it makes a girl feel better. This particular ‘severe’ injury we’re nursing back to health happened mysteriously after her sister got stitches in her foot. Who wants to be out-injured by a six year old?
and I’m trying to make amends with my friend Cindy, who hated the last picture I posted of her and said that our friendship was on the rocks. I came across this one from a cross-country meet. I don’t know if this is frienship-saving photography but I’m gonna keep trying!
Then there’s these precious items. Meet my laundry staff. ‘Originally fresh’ Gain and ‘Pink Opal’ Downy. These two are the shnizzle. My children love their freshly laundered clothing warm from the dryer after being washed and rinsed in these two stars. I love the combo. Try it, you’ll see.
Oh, and of course, my bookclub. I love these beautiful, smart, funny women. We met at Tanya’s beautiful house and had gourmet french food prepared by her and Amy, while we discussed Madame Bovary. Join us next month for Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. If you’re too far away, we have a book club blog. We’d love ‘virtual’ members.
we ate all this at bookclub…..which was to-die for and totally calorie free, I was told.
And I couldn’t forget these amazing boys who came in 1st place AGAIN at the regional cross country meet. They’re off to state. Good luck boys!
And this precious sweetie who finally got her braces off…..
and loves to show off her new teeth!
Speaking of Running…….
I have a great idea. Let’s train for a half marathon together. It’s not as hard as you think. You run ~3days/week 3-4 miles each day. Then, on Saturdays, you increase your ‘long’ run from 3 miles to 12 miles over 12 weeks. If you’ve never done it, it’s amazing. And anyone can do it if you give yourself 3 or 4 months to train. The Nashville Music City Half Marathon is Saturday April 25, 2009. Start running 2-3 miles at a time 2-3 days a week and keep that up until January, then we’ll start the official ‘training’ schedule. My daughter Caiti’s gonna do it. It’ll be her first. Who else is interested? Jessica, Liz, Cindy, Sis, Keli, Leigh Ann, anyone …..come on girls….it’d be so much fun. We could encourage each other during the training period and then meet in Nashville in April for the run. What’d ya say? Let me further entice you by saying that I lined up for the race last year right beside Dave Ramsey!! and then shopped in Franklin all day (or mostly got inspired by all the amazing stuff….it’s hard to ‘shop’ when Dave Ramsey’s on your mind) and ate wonderful food…..and went to a great knitting shop……and had my makeup done at the MAC counter. It was a blast. You know you want to.
Look over the training schedule here.
Braces, cake, and running………
This one is highly anticipating the removal of braces….
These two are watching Charlotte’s Web…..
while these two exchange birthday hugs…
and enjoy chocolate cake with buttercream icing……(recipe forthcoming)….
and reuben style pasta…..the recipe which you can find here. It is delectable!
When wishes come true….
I’m joining Kristen’s Valentine Link Party…..’cause I really love to talk about this guy!
If he were a rock star, he’d be Eddie Vedder.
If he were a drink, he’d be scotch.
If he were a animal, he’d be a lion.
If he were a state, he’d be Montana.
If he were a politician…..he’d never be a politician.
If he were a car, he’d be a Ford F150.
If he were a superhero, he’d be Spiderman.
If he were an apostle, he’d be Peter.
If he were a color, he’d be black.
If he were a football player, he’d be Brett Favre.
If he were an actor, he’d be Jack Bauer.
If he were a bird, he’d be an eagle.
If he were a tree, he’d be a oak.
He is the real deal. Authentic. Strong. Fierce. Tender. Rugged. Wise. Mysterious. Reflective. Hilarious. Cautious. A man with convictions. Unafraid to be himself. Unable to be false. Ready to learn. Quick to apologize. Taking the road less travelled. And okay with it. Faithful. To. The. End.
If he were a dessert, he’d be chocolate cake. With buttercream icing. Cause that’s my favorite.
He is like fresh cool water. He is like reading Mere Christianity for the 10th time and finding new insight and truth over and over again. His hands are pleasantly calloused and his body hard and strong.
His insight is keen and his intellect sharp.
He always smiles when he sees babies. And tears up easier than you’d think.
He is the first person I need to talk to when life isn’t fair. And the first person I think of when
joy is unspeakable.
And today is his birthday.
I hope you get everything on your “wishlist” Stevie.
Pearl Jam performing “Wishlist”
The Verity opens for Jeremy Camp……
Meet the boys in the band…….
Andrew-on guitar and keyboard
Stuart-on bass
Daniel-on electric guitar
and Jay- on drums…..new drums, his mom told me….
They were the opening band for a concert called YouthQuake that featured Jeremy Camp, Stellar Kart, Superchick, ArticleOne, and our boys…..The Verity!
They played three songs and did a great job. I suppose I could possibly be just a wee bit biased…..but they are really talented musicians and are really great kids…ahem…..young men, I mean.
They played to their largest crowd ever…
and to very excited family members….you could even call these family members giddy….
They got there very early on a gorgeous, albeit chilly October Saturday, to set up all the equipment…..Taylor’s cousin Corey was a great help.
While cousins and girlfriends and sisters drank hot chocolate trying to stay warm….
Taylor tunes his guitar……
takes time for hugs for his Grannie, Aunt Gina, and cousins……
while Morgan, Caiti, and Kaley work the ‘merch’ table….(that’s concert lingo for merchandise….I’m learning all kinds of stuff)
and Emme ‘hangs’ onto Morgan (Taylor’s girlfriend) the whole live-long day! Thank you Morgan. And our dear little (or not so little anymore) Hope celebrates her 12th birthday!
We saw talented performers such as Stellar Kart……
Article One…..
and Superchick…….
and although Cindy and I were given ‘backstage’ passes to take pictures of the performers…….(apparently the real photographer was very late to show up)
we were mostly just in awe of our own young men…..those same young men who were just yesterday playing t-ball and learning to swim and fiddling around with the guitar. Our boys are leaving us very soon and I couldn’t be prouder of the men they are becoming. The concert promoter who requested our photography skills may be surprised when I email him 138 pictures—127 which are of Taylor. I don’t need a backstage pass to get these kind of photos.
As the evening wore on, it got darker and colder…..and we got tired……..
and hungry, while we waited for Jeremy Camp to perform…..
who finally did….but by that time……
some of us were…..
too tired to enjoy it.
It was a long fun day and I’m so excited for the boys that they got this wonderful opportunity to be a part of such a big event. This post and this scripture are dedicated to them.
